Evolution of CrossFit

For all the people who are new here. Let me tell you ‘CrossFit’ is still a new sport for the whole world. CrossFit is a branded fitness regimen which was founded by Greg Glassman and Lauren Jenai in 2000. Interval workouts to burn more calories.

A Competitive Sport

CrossFit is promoted as not only a physical exercise philosophy but also as a competitive sport. Which includes High intensity interval training, circuit trainings, plyometrics, powerlifting, calisthenics, Olympic weightlifting and much more. Now a days it is practiced in almost each and every gym of the world. And its workouts are known as ‘Workout of the day’. Many a times CrossFit has been criticized for causing muscle injuries which can also lead to life threatening situations.

CrossFit Gyms

CrossFit Inc was incorporated in year 2000 by Greg Glassman. The first CrossFit gym was situated in Santa Cruz, California and the first affiliated gym was situated in Seattle, Washington. No of CrossFit gyms increased by 2005 to 13 and by 2016, the no’s increased to 13,000. After Glassman divorced her wife Jenai, he obtained complete control over the company.

Components of Physical Fitness

CrossFit is a strength workout which consists of functional dynamic movements and is a mix of aerobics and calisthenics. CrossFit workout aims to develop fitness in the 10 most important components of physical fitness. Cardiovascular endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy. CrossFit gyms use different kinds of fitness equipment’s like barbells, dumbbells, gymnastics rings, pull-up bars, kettlebells, jumping boxes etc.

CrossFit training has been criticized for over many times because of its highly intense and dangerous dynamic movements.

History of CrossFit Games

The evolution of CrossFit games began in 2007 when 70 athletes participated or competed on a ranch in California. Glassman believed that CrossFit athletes can dominate any workout. It was then when the first inaugural CrossFit games were done. It was a total of 1000 meter row with 100 pull ups and seven push jerks. CrossFit games were held in California in 2008. But due to its increased popularity, this time there were a total of 300 competitors. And more than 800 fans. The biggest moment in the history of CrossFit games was when Reebok signed a 10 year sponsorship deal in 2011. And its prize money increased to a total of $1million.

Let me tell you One of the biggest reason why CrossFit workouts have become so popular. You not only get the opportunity to compete with the athletes from all around the world. But you can also focus on breaking your own limits. Athletes can choose which workouts they want to do and how much.
